The Support Faculty

Support classes in regular schools provide individual learning programs for students where it is agreed that the student's educational needs cannot be adequately met in a mainstream class.

Peel High School has seven support classes:

IO/IS: - Moderate/ Severe Intellectual Disability

IM: - Mild Intellectual Disability

Four MC: - Multicategorical

ED: - Emotional Disturbance

Depending on the individual needs, students in Years 7-10 can access the curriculum through a regular pattern of study, Life Skills or combination of both. Students are required to complete mandatory areas hours in Key Learning Areas including English, Mathematics, Human Society in its Environment, Science, Language other than English, Creative and Performing Arts and Technical and Applied Studies. In Year 10 students may access in-school work experience with support, then move into work experience in the Tamworth Community.

Students in Years 11 and 12 may access the curriculum through a regular pattern of study, Life Skills outcomes or a combination of both. It may also include T-VET (delivered at TAFE) or S-VET (delivered at school) courses.

Peel High School has two Learning and Support Teachers who assist staff with strategies to support students with additional learning needs in mainstream classes.
